The
Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers of Johor (FMM
Johor) has expressed grave reservations on the
proposed port consolidation between Johor Port
and the Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP).
Among the reasons given by the FMM Johor, which
“strongly opposes the port consolidation plan,”
were that manufacturing operations would be
disrupted and there would be a substantially
increase logistical costs.
Additionally, PTP was not ready for the
consolidation because there were only two main
line operators operating in the port, it said in
a statement.
FMM Johor said there were also concerns for the
security of high value cargo and the
transportation of dangerous goods from Pasir
Gudang to PTP.
FMM Johor said although it had organised
numerous dialogues and meetings with interested
parties in the public and private sectors, it
had not received any indication from PTP on
whether the proposed move was being reviewed or
dropped.
