Barentsz" maiden call at Port Klang

P&O Nedlloyd Barentsz., recently launched in September 2000 from the Akar-MTV shipyard in Wismar, Germany, is making her maiden call at Port Klang on Thursday, 19 October 2000.With a length of 278m and a container carrying capacity of 5,468 TEUs (including connections for 500 reefer containers), the P&O Nedlloyd Barentsz is among the world's largest- and fastest- containerships. It is operating in the Europe-Far East Service in co-operation with the Company's Grand Alliance Partners. At a cruising speed of 25 knots it will complete the voyage from Rotterdam to Port Klang in 17 days. The ship will sail under the Netherlands Flag under the command of Captain Nico Van Der
Zwan. His Excellency, the Ambassador of the Netherlands to Malaysia, Mr Conrad J.Van Tooren, will be the Guest of Honour, at the onboard reception on 19 October to commemorate the occasion. Other Guest include members of the Malaysia-Dutch Business Council, the Klang Port Authority and North Port Corporation. According to Patrick Lim Keng Lee, P& O managing Director for Malaysia & Brunei, the "P&0 Nedlloyd Barentsz" is the fifth in a series of five newbuildings of 5,468 TEUs explorer Class which P&O Nedlloyd has deployed to Port Klang within the past eight months. These five newbuildings launched in 2000 include the "P&O Nedlloyd Tasman", "P&O Nedlloyd Mercator","P&O Nedlloyd Hudson",
"P&O Nedlloyd Drake", all named after famous British and Dutch maritime explorers.
