The Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) marked
its first year of operations by
achieving a landmark 418,218 TEUs. From
these 418,218 TEUs, 37,218 TEUs was
local exports and imports, constituting
approximately 9% of total throughput.
During the 12-month period, PTP received
698 container vessel calls and 594
non-container vessel calls. The non
container vessel calls constituted
largely of Star Cruise daily calls.
On the year 2000 performance, Mohd Sidik

In such a short time, we have come a
long way. We could not have done this
without our customers and would like to
thank them for promoting the port in the
crucial early stage. The 418,218 TEUs
represents a great start and we are
confident that year 2001 will see
significant progress with increased port
capacity ".
Year 2000 also saw four main lines begin
services including Maersk Sealand, APL-NOL,
K-Line and Mitsui OSK Lines. A focus on
feeder services in the 3rd and 4th
quarter of year 2000 saw a number of
feeders including Bengal Tiger Lines, QC
Container Line, Kimtrans, MCC Transport,
Baywater, PDZ, Compass Shipping, and
Balisa Freight. A continued focus in
year 2000 on the feeder network will see
growth towards all ports in the region.
In the Distripark area, PTP succeeded in
securing 4 main anchor tenants for the
area. Mitsui Soko, Tiong Nam, Malaysian
Industrial Estates (MIEL) and Kenwood
Logistics. The four players will be
beginning activities in year 2001.
