AirAsia Bhd won the Transport Company of Excellence Award 2005 at the
Transport Industry Awards Nite 2005 organised by the Chartered Institute of
Logistics & Transport, held in Kuala Lumpur this evening (Friday 25 November
2005).
The airline was selected for the Award by a panel of judges headed by the
Deputy Secretary General of Ministry of Transport, Haji Zakaria Hj Bahari
that also selected winners for the two other categories.
Others members of the panel were Abdul Radzak Abd Malek, FCILT, President,
The Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport Malaysia, Tan Sri Datuk
Seri (Dr) Halim Mohammad, FCILT, Executive Chairman, Halim Mazmin Bhd, Hj
Ahmad bin Hj Moidin, National President of Malaysian Association of
Productivity, T Selva, Editor Maritime Star, Star Publications, Assoc Prof.
Haji Mohamed Arshaed Hj. Zainuddin of Mitrans, UiTM and G Durairaj, Managing
Director, PortsWorld.
AirAsia was cited for shaking up the region's airline industry with a simple
concept - everyone should be able to fly.
“The initiative of AirAsia has brought about a new dimension to the growth
and development of the airline industry in the region. Its unconventional
approach to its management and its successful business model has won the
airline many accolades and awards from all over the world,” the citation
read by out by the chairman of the panel of judges said.
Datuk Mohd Sidik Shaik Osman, the former CEO of Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepas,
who is now its chairman, was selected for the Transport Industry Personality
Award 2005.
Sidik, who is now the CEO of Senai Airport Terminal, was credited for
overcoming the odds were stacked against him to make Pelabuhan Tanjung
Pelepas compete against Singapore, the world’s number 2 container port.
“There was a need for imagination, courage and perseverance. Sidik displayed
them all,” the citation read.
The Star Maritime meanwhile won the Transport Journalism Award 2005.
The panel failed to find suitable winners for the Young Achievers Award. |
