Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP), South-east Asia's fastest growing port has prepared itself for increasing vessel traffic into PTP waters by providing for a state-of-the-art Vessel Traffic System known as the Radar Processing And Display System (RAPADS).
The RAPADS agreement was signed today at PTP between PTP, Puncak Teknologi and
Solfrelog, a French company. The agreement ensures that PTP will be equipped with a radar based Vessel Traffic System (VTS) to manage and control all shipping activity within the port's waters.
With this system, PTP will provide for a highly-efficient flow of traffic entering and exiting the port. The RAPADS itself will provide a visual display of all shipping activity, provide collision avoidance and potential grounding information for all PTP traffic within the approach channel and precautionary area off Tanjung
Piai.
Signing on behalf of PTP was CEO, Mohd Sidik Shaik Osman. Shahiran Jaafar, Senior Manager signed for Puncak Teknologi and Laurent Amiel, International Business Development representative for Solrelog. Puncak Tegnologi (M) Sdn.Bhd is a local company which specialises in integration of high technology applications in the maritime industry. Sofrelog is a French high technology company designing and producing maritime defence and aerospace application.
PTP CEO, Mohd Sidik Shaik Osman during his welcoming speech stated that " PTP's new VTS system ensures a highly efficient flow of vessels in PTP waters. This will be especially critical with our
expansion plans and turn around time kept to optimum. With the RAPADS, safety and security of our customers vessels will also be further enhanced within the port waters. "
The signing ceremony was attended by representatives from government agencies, shipping sector and representatives from PTP, Puncak Teknologi and
Sofrelog.
