Shipping Container Lines (CSCL),
which is on a wave of expansion, has
further re-affirmed its plan to make
Port Klang its regional hub with
introduction of the dedicated Middle
East service from Port Klang on
December 6, 2001.
“The
growing transshipment volumes at
Port Klang from various loops had
prompted CSCL to introduce its own
dedicated vessel into the Middle
East and Indian port destinations.
Today we have well diversified
feeder network operations in the
South East Asia region like Myanmar,
Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam,”
said the deputy general Manager of
China Shipping (Malaysia) Agency Sdn
Bhd, Khu Heong Chye.
The
development has made it necessary
for CSCL to deploy its own ships
then transshipped boxes via third
party carriers from Port Klang.
“We
have deployed a total of five
vessels with a capacity of 2,500
TEUs each on this “APX West”
service to Middle East Region
including Dubai and Nava Sheva,”
said Khu.
The
port rotation of the new service
covers Tianjin, Qing Dao,Shanghai,
Hong Kong, Chiwan, Port Klang, Jebel
Ali and Nhava Sheva. In her maiden
voyage on December 6, 2001, Mv CSCL
Xiamen handled 885 TEUs before
sailed to Jebel Ali.
“With
our dedicated service, we can commit
to our shippers that CSCL can reach
Port of Jebel Ali in seven days and
Nava Sheva in nine-days. This new
service will be more economical and
encourages the growth of CSCL’s
transshipment traffic at Port
Klang,” said Khu.
Todate
CSCL has nearly 20 service calls at
Westport weekly including joint
mainline services as well as feeder
connections into SEA.
Its
mainline services include
Mediterranean Express Wesbound and
Eastbound, Europe Westbound and
Eastbound, African Westbound and
Eastbound and Middle East Westbound
and Eastbound as well as direct
connections to USA West and East
Coast.
