Mitsui O.S.K lines (MOL) will be starting a new service together with Delmas
Line that will link Port Klang to the emerging African market.
The new service is expected to commence on April 24 with the vessel, EAX
Sincerity, sailing from Port Klang.
With the inauguration of the new service MOL will dissolve its current joint
Asia-East Africa service with P&O Nedlloyd (PONL) and DELMAS by end of March
2006.
MOL and DELMAS will maintain the current weekly service, providing the
shortest transit times to ports in Japan, the rest of Asia, and East Africa.
The new direct service will be operated with five 700 TEU-class geared
vessels and will provide a fixed day weekly service and the trade's fastest
transit times between Asia and East Africa.
With this significant upgrading of the service, DELMAS and MOL expect to
meet customers' expectations and will strive to remain their carriers of
choice.
The rotation of the service covers Port Klang - Singapore - Colombo - Male
(biweekly calls)) - Mombasa -Tanga - Dar Es Salaam - Mahe (biweekly calls) -
Colombo - Port Klang.
Besides the African service MOL also offers other services in association
with four carriers (MISC Berhad, Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha, Orient
Overseas Container Line and Pacific International Lines) on Southeast Asia
New Zealand Service.
The consortium members have also decided to launch a new joint two-loop
weekly service from Port Klang and Singapore to New Zealand.
The first sailing is scheduled for next month.
The strategic alliance will offer higher-quality customer service, create
new opportunities for further growth and allow broader network coverage.
The partners will share space on nine vessels ranging from 1,300 - 1,600
TEUs.
The loop one service links Port Klang - Singapore - Brisbane - Auckland -
Napier - Lyttelton - Wellington - Nelson (alternate calls) - Brisbane - Port
Klang, while the second loop connects Singapore - Tauranga - Lyttelton –
Singapore.
End of last year (mid November 2005) MOL upgraded its new India container
service.
The joint service with Singapore-based Advance Container Lines (Pet) Ltd.
and Simatech Shipping & Forwarding LLC of the United Arab Emirates links
Nhava Sheva in western India and Tuticorin in the south with Port Klang in
seven days.
On the Eastbound trade, shipment from India was able to reach Port Klang in
five days, one of the fastest transit time in the trading route.
The service with three 700-800 TEU containerships links Singapore - Port
Klang - Nhava Sheva - Colombo - Tuticorin - Colombo - Port Klang –
Singapore.
On the other hand MOL will also start a new joint service named the New
Andes, connecting Asia, Mexico, and the West Coast of South America in April
in collaboration with Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. ("K" Line).
The two companies, along with P&O Nedlloyd, currently offer a joint service
that will be dissolved next April with the launch of the new service.
MOL and "K" Line will offer a weekly service with nine 2,000 TEU
containerships, allowing both companies to offer sufficient space to meet
demands of this growing trade and improve customer service.
Along with current trade coverage, the companies are now selecting
additional calling ports for the new service and looking at ways to optimize
links to Asia, especially Shanghai and other ports in the rapidly growing
Chinese market. |
