STX Pan Ocean enters Malaysian market  

STX Pan Ocean, the Korean regional container operator has made inroads to Malaysian market with inauguration of the Korea Malaysia Straits (KMS) Service.

“KMS service is a joint service between Samudera Shipping and TS Container Lines. The service started on with Sinar Toba a ship operated by Samudera Shipping on 18 November 2005 said Kwak Ho Sang, the Managing Director of Q-Link Agencies Sdn Bhd. Q-Link is the local agent for the STX Pan Ocean.

Kwak said three ships will be deployed in the weekly sailing with one ship for each members in the trade. We have deployed 1,200-teus Independent Pursuit in the service and its take 21 days to complete a round voyage. The full port rotation of the service links Singapore, Pusan, Inchuen, Qingdao, Hong Kong and Port Klang.

With the aim of strengthen and diversify its regional container service, the line has picked Port Klang as one of the base to expand their global container coverage Malaysia as Northport is the first mainline port of call eastbound on the Europe-Asia leg and last port of call westbound on the Asia-Europe leg said Kwak.

We will be deploying our second service into Malaysian market under the banner of Korea-Straits-India (KSI) Service. The first vessel, Bahamian Express V. 023W for this service will be berthed at Northport on December 28, 2005.

Kwak said the Far East/India trade sector growing tremendously. The new service offer a direct link between Northport and Nhava Sheva Port in India and this will be an added alternative option for Malaysian exporters to reach Indian markets.

The Korea-Straits-India service connects seven major ports namely Pusan, Shanghai, Ningbo, Hong Kong, Singapore, Port Klang, Nhava Sheva, Northport in Port Klang, Singapore, Hong Kong and back to Pusan on a weekly basis.

Meanwhile, Duk-Soo Kang, the Chairman of the STX pan Ocean said the STX Group intends to make STX pan Ocean a pivotal member of the group by helping it to become the world’s greatest and most competitive shipping company. STX Pan Ocean is the number one carrier in bulk services in Korea and recorded a net sales of USD2.5 billion last year.

STX Pan Ocean has also sets its long-term goals of reaching total group sales of USD10 billion by the year 2010, transforming STX Pan Ocean into one of the world’s to five shipping company.
