Maruba Line commences new direct service

Maruba Clan S A has become latest in the growing list of shipping lines that have added direct calls at Northport in Port Klang.

Beginning 15 July, the shipping line commenced the most comprehensive direct service to South America with the maiden call of its 1,500 TEUs, Charlote Schulte.

"It is the first direct service mounted by Maruba Line not only from Northport but also the region. Prior to this direct call, we used to transship boxes bound to the South American market via Hong Kong," said the owner's representative of Maruba Clan S.A, Alejandro G. Nakakoji.

"We have visited all the major ports in the region but Northport fitted well in our search for a hub port in the region. Unlike other regional ports, Northport has a strong base cargo and offers competitive handling rates and this no doubt featured well in our decision to include Northport in South East Asia in our port of rotation schedule," said Nakakoji.

According to Nakakoji the inauguration of the service was very significant as the line viewed the Malaysian market with considerable optimism.

"We hope the service will pick-up over the time and we are prepared to increase the service frequency to a weekly service from the twice calls which we have just started at Northport," he added.

To further penetrate the Malaysian market aggressively Maruba shipping line has appointed Golden Sparrow Sdn Bhd as its local agents in Malaysia.

Nakakoji said Maruba line provides one of the most comprehensive networks by connecting almost seven different countries in the South American continent in a single string.

The countries served include the west coast of South America namely Argentina, Chile, Peru, Colombia, Coasta Rica, Guatemala and Mexico.

The full port of rotation of the new service covers Port Klang, Kaohsiung, Hong Kong, Ningbo, Busan, Puerto Quetzal, Acajutla, Buena Ventura, Callao, Iquique, San Antonio, Linguen, Callao, Buena Ventura and Port Klang.

"We able to connect Malaysian shippers with the West Coast of South American ports in record time of 15 days, Nakakoji said.

He noted that more and more e-goods, textiles and rubber gloves are being exported from Malaysian market to South America and the exports of these goods could be well served with the new direct service.
