Fast-expanding transport logistics company, Bintang Group plans to widen its
market outreach by expanding its domestic haulage operation by venturing
into cross border trades.
The company, which is en-route for listing on the Second Board of the Bursa
Malaysia by taking over the listing status of PWE Industries Bhd by May,
plans to venture into cross border trade, notably Thailand and Singapoere.
Bintang Movers Bhd’s Executive Chairman, Ahmad Shalimin Shaffie said there
is huge potential in the cross border trade.
“Currently we involved in the trade, but in a very small scale whereby we
are only offering cross border transportation services to Singapore and
Thailand. Our company intends to penetrate sector by looking into
collaboration with Thai counter parts. We are currently working on the
details and hope to seal the deal by end of this year,” said Shalimin in
Shah Alam.
Shalimin said the company was not only looking expand transportation
services but to provide total logistics solution to Thai shippers.
“We understand the market outreach is good and we are looking at markets up
to Bangkok as our initial finding shows in excess of some RM30billion worth
of goods is being traded between two countries,” he said.
In order to cope with its expansion plan the group has drawn-up a
comprehensive plan to expand our total logistics services.
As for the haulage operations, the company recently acquired 10 new prime
movers with hammer side loaders for RM6 million.
“The new equipment will provide the group with a faster turnaround time of
containers for the group’s clients among others Freight Mark, Usaha Mesra
and LG Malaysia,” said Shalimin.
Currently the company has 250 prime movers for the haulage sector.
The Ministry of Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development has given the green
light for another 50 prime movers and the company hopes to run the fleet by
end of this year.
“We believe that we can grow to be a market leader as we see a great
potential in business growth this year. Currently we are the fourth biggest
haulage company in Port Klang market and moving approximately 120,000 teus
per annum,” said Shalimin
He said with the additional fleet, the company would be expanding its
operation to Eastern Corridor of Peninsular Malaysia, particularly to
Kuantan to serve the fast expanding petrochemical hub.
Today, Bintang Movers Bhd operates a fleet of 500 vehicles includes cement
tankers, container haulage prime movers and trailers, box container lorries,
conventional cargo lorries, low loaders, tipper trucks and trailers, pole
trailers, car carriers, cargo crane trailers and multi product tankers.
“With all these in place, we expect our profit after tax to grow further by
about 10 per cent from RM10.5 million last year. We are very confident of
achieving this as the haulage sector which contribute some 40 per cent of
the company’s revenue projected to record 15 per cent growth this year,”
said Shalimin. |
