Bintang eyes on cross border market

Fast-expanding transport logistics company, Bintang Group plans to widen its market outreach by expanding its domestic haulage operation by venturing into cross border trades.

The company, which is en-route for listing on the Second Board of the Bursa Malaysia by taking over the listing status of PWE Industries Bhd by May, plans to venture into cross border trade, notably Thailand and Singapoere.

Bintang Movers Bhd’s Executive Chairman, Ahmad Shalimin Shaffie said there is huge potential in the cross border trade.

“Currently we involved in the trade, but in a very small scale whereby we are only offering cross border transportation services to Singapore and Thailand. Our company intends to penetrate sector by looking into collaboration with Thai counter parts. We are currently working on the details and hope to seal the deal by end of this year,” said Shalimin in Shah Alam.

Shalimin said the company was not only looking expand transportation services but to provide total logistics solution to Thai shippers.

“We understand the market outreach is good and we are looking at markets up to Bangkok as our initial finding shows in excess of some RM30billion worth of goods is being traded between two countries,” he said.

In order to cope with its expansion plan the group has drawn-up a comprehensive plan to expand our total logistics services.

As for the haulage operations, the company recently acquired 10 new prime movers with hammer side loaders for RM6 million.

“The new equipment will provide the group with a faster turnaround time of containers for the group’s clients among others Freight Mark, Usaha Mesra and LG Malaysia,” said Shalimin.

Currently the company has 250 prime movers for the haulage sector.

The Ministry of Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development has given the green light for another 50 prime movers and the company hopes to run the fleet by end of this year.

“We believe that we can grow to be a market leader as we see a great potential in business growth this year. Currently we are the fourth biggest haulage company in Port Klang market and moving approximately 120,000 teus per annum,” said Shalimin

He said with the additional fleet, the company would be expanding its operation to Eastern Corridor of Peninsular Malaysia, particularly to Kuantan to serve the fast expanding petrochemical hub.

Today, Bintang Movers Bhd operates a fleet of 500 vehicles includes cement tankers, container haulage prime movers and trailers, box container lorries, conventional cargo lorries, low loaders, tipper trucks and trailers, pole trailers, car carriers, cargo crane trailers and multi product tankers.

“With all these in place, we expect our profit after tax to grow further by about 10 per cent from RM10.5 million last year. We are very confident of achieving this as the haulage sector which contribute some 40 per cent of the company’s revenue projected to record 15 per cent growth this year,” said Shalimin.
