Liquid bulk shipment via GP containers

Syrius Logistics (M) is confident of expanding its market share forflexitanks or what is commonly known as flexibag for the transportation of a variety of liquid bulk cargoes.

The flexibag offers an innovative method to move chemical or bulk liquids in more economic and efficient way said the Managing Director of Syrius, Graham Wall.

The flexitank is a bulk liquid container constructed from a woven polypropylene outer liners and polyethylene inner liners.

The modern inter-modal tank can be converted into a standard 20-foot dry deep sea-container the transportation of a bulk liquid container, carrying up to 23,000 litres of non-corrosive and non-hazardous liquid product said Graham.

Syrius Logistics is able to provide an alternative solution to move liquid liquid products. The rising packaging cost for drums and plastic containers makes it more and more shippers beginning to utilize flexitank, he added.

"Currently, we are handling approximately 200 TEUS per month at the major seaports like Penang, Port Klang, Kuantan and Johor Port. We expect total lifting to grow by 700 teu per month before end of this year," said Graham.

Graham said the use of flexitanks is witnessing enormous growth in Asia Pacific region.

This is due to the huge volume edible oil movements within and outside Asia.

Graham said Malaysia as the largest producer and exporter of palm oil offers greatest potential for the use of flexitanks in the region.

Flexitanks are also suitable for shipment of natural latex, liquid foodstuff and other type of easy chemicals.

Close to 40 per cent of our turnover totalling RM130 million is contributed by flexibag market, while the remaining gained from the ISO tank container operations, dry bulk liners and intermediate bulk containers (IBC), said Graham.

"The use of flexitank offers better utilization of space since approximately 40 per cent more products content can be shipped in compared with conventional drums and at cheaper rates," said the Managing Director of Syrius Logistics (M) Sdn Bhd, Chan Kong Yew.

More importantly our flexitanks are one-way disposable and easily recycled making it environment friendly. As such, it guarantees no cargo contamination to the product. Therefore it is suitable to quality sensitive products such as those labeled food grade or edible grade said Chan.

As manufacturers of flexibags Syrius have direct control over production allowing deliveries to be guaranteed and research and development for individual customers becomes a reality.

In-house manufacturing allows Syrius to remain ahead of the market in material technology and at the forefront of technology at every level. Syrius technical support also ensures flexibags are supplied with the right specification and service for the product to be shipped.

Syrius Logistics in Malaysia provides commercial and operation support to various agents and representatives in Asia in regards to bulk liquid solutions.

Today Syrius supplies approximately 15 per cent to the world market and plans to raise its stake to 20 in the coming financial period.
