The
Maritime Institute of Malaysia has
invited the maritime community to
contribute to the development of
maritime policy in the country.
“The
public policy on maritime is still
evolving and any input that would
enhance the quality of the policy
would be welcome. The views from
many of you who are industry
practitioners, in particular would
be useful,” said the
Institute’s director-general,
Datuk Cheah Kong Wai.
He
urged the industry to voice out
its concerns on matters that
involve or affect its directly so
that the industry is not left out
or overlooked in initiatives in
public policy-making process.
Datuk
Cheah said this at the maritime
networking cocktail inaugurated by
him in Klang last week.
He
said MIMA as a national
institution engaged in maritime
research is pleased to be
associated with this meeting as
it also provides us with an
opportunity to interact with some
of the key industry practitioners.
“The
Institute is engaged in
researching into a number of areas
in the maritime industry and
interaction provided in this
gathering will give us some
thought about areas that need
attention,” he said.
“I
hope that like MIMA other agencies
especially government agencies too
would take advantage of this
meeting by lending an ear to what
the industry has got to say on
some topical issues. I am sure we
all can benefit in someway by
fostering a closer understanding
and co-operation with the players
in the industry,” he added.
Cheah
also commented that it was
very relevant that the networking
cocktail was taking place in Klang
to give greater impetus to the
growing stature and importance of
our premier port, Port Klang.
Speaking
at the same event, the managing
director of Trend Intan
Development Sdn Bhd Ng Kong Ling
who has offered his new office
building, Intan Millennium Square
as the venue for the cocktails
that would be held monthly, said
there is a growing demand for
prime office location for shipping
companies in Klang-Port Klang.
