MOL strengthen Indian connectivity

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. has started a new direct container service linking the Indian port of Chennai and the straits to meet rising demand for cargo transport in the booming Indian market.

MOL will offer the new service through a joint operation with Singapore-based Sea Consortium Pte, Ltd with one container ship provided by each company said the President of MOL, Akimitsu Ashida.

The service takes off early this month with maiden call of mv Karina early this month.

The full rotation of the service covers Penang - Singapore - Port Klang - Chennai – Penang. The Chennai direct service also offers one of the fastest transit times of four days from Port Klang to Chennai.

This new service will bring the fastest and stable services from Japan to Chennai port in Madras by linking to MOL's Japan/Straits service.

This new service will also connect to MOL's worldwide service at Singapore, said Ashida.

The Japanese carrier has also upgraded its services to India linking Nhava Sheva and Tuticorin port end of last year. The service is being jointly mounted together with Singapore based Advance Container Lines (Pte) Ltd and UAE based Simatech Shipping & Forwarding LLC.

Under the arrangement cargoes will be re-loaded at mother vessels at Northport in Port Klang.

Shippers in Nhava Sheva using the service can expect their cargo to reach Tokyo, Kobe and Yokohama in 17 days and Shimizu and Nagoya bound cargo from Nhava Sheva in 18 days.

The Straits Express Service covers Singapore, Port Klang, Nhava Sheva, Colombo, Tuticorin, Colombo, Port Klang and Singapore.
