CIT cautions students on membership status

The Chartered Institute of Transport (Malaysian National Council has advised students wishing to pursue the Institute Logistic and Transport courses in Malaysia that they must have the pre-requisite to be accepted as student member of the CIT (Malaysian National Council).

The Institute, which is the only governing body with territorial rights for the conduct of all CIT and ILT programmes conducted or to be conducted in Malaysia, warned those pursuing any such programme without having the pre-requisite as condition of participation they would not be recognised by the Institute or ILT.

Stating that pending the finalisation of the legislative process of the merger between the Chartered Institute of Transport UK National Council and the Institute of Logistics in June 1999, CIT (Malaysian National Council) noted that the Chartered Institute of Transport International remained its parent body.

The Institute, in press statement in an attempt to avoid ambiguity and misinformation with regards to the status of ILT or CIT, said any collection of any form of dues or membership fee purported to be ILT or CIT by any other party will therefore be considered illegal.

CIT (Malaysian National Section) currently conducts three approved programme of the CUT International, namely the Chartered Institute of Transport Programme, the Bachelor of Business Administration (Transport) programme at UiTM and the Advnaced Diploma in Logistics programme.

The Institute’s Hon Secretary S Navaratnam urged those in doubt or have been approached for membership to enquire the status directly with the Institute, which maintains its office in Subang Jaya (Tel: 03-5633490)
