Century supplies bunker fuels

Century Logistics Holdings Bhd has entered into a business partnership with Titan Oil Pte Ltd to carry out ship-to-ship bunker transfer (STSBT) operations off Pasir Gudang in Johor that dramatically widens the product base of the company that gained listing on the local bourse last week.

The STSBT operation will be carried out for the two years before the two parties set-up a proper on-shore bunkering terminal complex in Pasir Gudang.

“This is the fist time that STSBT operation is being carried out in a “floating storage unit” within the port limits in Malaysia. The move will help position Malaysia as a supplier of bunkers for ships plying the eastern side of Johor,” said the deputy managing director of Century Logistics Holding Bhd (CLH), Mohamed Amin Kassim.

The STSBT was officially launched by the Minister of Transport, Dato’ Seri Dr Ling Liong Sik last week.

The STSBT commenced operation with a 130,000 dwt floating tanker. The tanker will be regularly sourcing 380 cst fuel oil from Middle East, Africa and the Mediterranean region. It will be blended to 180 cst fuel and will be re-loaded into the feeder vessels to clients in China.

The company has several oil tankers of sizes ranging from 2,000 to 20,000 tonnes.

“Our floating storage facility which is about 10 km away from the international waterway and is expected to attract some 55-60 ships with 3,000 dwt per month. Titan Oil Pte Ltd which has maintained a base of STSBT in Singapore for the last five years expects to handle 300,000 tonnes at the initial stage of Johor operation. This is expected to grow slowly to 700,000 tonnes,” said Amin..
