The shipping industry, which
harbours major inefficiencies in its
current ways of doing business,
which in turn cost sippers and
carriers time, money, and valuable
resources, requires new approaches
to manage process worldwide.
"There is a need for the industry to
develop an industry-standard
electronic platform to streamline
the shipment management process
worldwide, "said Paul Stephen,
General Manager Asia Pacific of
INTTRA.
Stephen said in Kuala Lumpur
recently that in response to this
need, a consortium of leading global
carriers made the decision to form
and financially sponsor a global
organization called, "INTTRA."
INTTRA's mission is to fulfill the
carrier's vision for modernizing and
streamlining the freight management
process by introducing standardized
electronic procedures via an
Internet portal.
"These new standards improve the
abilities of carriers, shippers, and
related service providers to
communicate effectively with each
other, thereby increasing
efficiencies through collaboration,"
he noted.
INTTRA enables shippers, freight
forwarders, third party logistics
providers, brokers, importers, and
industry portals to manage the
booking documentation and tracking
of cargo across multiple shipping
lines in a single integrated process
in a neutral, confidential
environment.
INTTRA's member carriers currently
cover more than 46 percent of the
world market, and up to 100 percent
in some specific trade lanes.
INTTRA -LINK is a transportation
network infrastructure designed to
supercharge the ocean transport
function for existing enterprise and
supply chain systems by providing
connectivity and standardized access
to all carrier transactions.
Stephen said INTTRA was committed to
protecting and enhancing the
Information Technology investments
of its customers through its rapid
mapping and ongoing support of all
ocean-related EDI and
business-to-business transactions.
"Today, all INTTRA services are
carrier sponsored; in the future,
value-added subscription services
will also be offered," he said.
Stephen said there are primary
differentiators between INTTRA and
other Internet-driven logistics
services.
Stephen said the further development
and application of INTTRA, and the
future of services affecting liner
trade and commerce, will include
leveraging the influence of the
world's leading carriers, utilizing
a global, non-proprietary service,
and various means of access to the
INTTRA platform.
