Evergreen,
the Taiwanese shipping line, which
pioneered the round the world
service (RTW), is preparing to end
the service as it may have
outlived its usefulness in the
light drastic structural changes
taking place in the global liner
industry.
The
line, which introduced the RTW
services 1984 defying general
trends in shipping, is expected to
opt for a faster shuttle services
on the main east-west trades.
Plans
have not been finalised yet but
the shipping line said shuttles
connecting just a couple of ports
at either end of services across
the Pacific and Atlantic, and on
the Europe/Asia corridor, provided
greater flexibility.
Such
services were in line with the
changing expectation of today’s
shipper.
