World’s largest containership expected to call PTP

The Port of Tanjung Pelepas in Johore could become the select global ports in the world to receive the world’s largest container ship that set sail on its maiden voyage two weeks ago from the European port of Aarhus.

Billed as the largest ship on earth capable of carrying at least 11,000 TEUs if fully laden and 14,000 TEUS if carrying a mixture if laden and empties, the mega sized container ship, Emma Maersk, is expected to make a westbound call at PTP.

Owners of Emma Maersk, AP Moller-Maersk A/S, the world’s largest container shipping line, employs PTP as a base port in Asia for its global shipping services.

Maersk, which is an equity partner in PTP, has deployed the 397 metre long Emma Maersk in the Asia-Europe service in a bid to further expand its market share.

The mega sized container ship will call at only nine ports worldwide and PTP takes the distinction of being one of the ports in the select port of rotation.
