Lumut Maritime Terminal recorded an
impressive 99 per cent growth in
drybulk cargo in the first six
months of this year.
LMT handled 596,818 tonnes of
drybulk cargo, consisting mainly of
coal, limestone chips, clinkers,
ilmenite ore, palm kernel expellers,
petroleum coke and salt, compared to
only 299,354 tones over the same
phase last year.
Its general manger, Kwek Chee Wah
said drybulk cargo would continue to
remain as the main cargo handled by
the port.
"Based on previous years figures, we
forecasted that we would only be
handling about 448,952 tonnes of
drybulk cargo throughout the first
half of this year, but at the end of
the day, it turns out to be more
than what we had expected," said
Kwek.
Meanwhile LMT's sister terminal,
Lekir Bulk Terminal Port (LBT)
dedicated to handling coal, handled
93,346 tonnes of coal during the
same period.
