Tebrau
Dynamic Logistics Sdn Bhd, a
Johor-based company, is setting
the stage to seize the expanding
opportunities in value-adding
activities in distribution and
logistics in new growth areas in
southern Peninsular Malaysia.
The
company, set up by Haji Omar Haji
Salleh, a former General Manager
Operations from Johor Port Berhad,
is one of the three logistics
companies under the state-level
Global Supplier Programme which
signed a MOU earlier this year
with the Port of Tanjung Pelepas
which had been identified by the
state government as the logistics
and distribution center.
The
managing director of Tebrau
Dynamic Logistics, Haji Omar said
there are vast opportunities in
distribution and logistic
activities in the southern
Peninsular which in the light of
the growth of PTP is set to emerge
as a region transshipment hub.
“We
are optimistic about the growth of
distribution trade in Johor as it
offers a more economical
alternative to other centers in
the region,” he said.
In
particular he said PTP's general
role in providing excellent
infrastructure and free zone
facilities for import, export and
transshipment and areas for
distribution and consolidation
activities have open new
opportunities for the development
of the distribution trade in the
state.
Under
the MOU signed between Tebrau
Dynamic Logistics and PTP, the
latter’s obligations include
providing ample facilities and
assistance in terms of matters
involving government agencies
related to the port.
To
ensure smooth implementation of
the MOU and to assist signatories,
the Johor Economic Planning Unit (UPEN)
will act as a supervisory body.
Within the scope of the MOU, PTP
and the three logistics companies
will work towards formalizing a
business arrangement within a
five-year period.
The
arrangement will provide a
comprehensive framework for the
logistics companies to capitalise
on PTP's fast growth as the
nation's leading transshipment
hub.
The
establishment of these companies
within PTP's Distribution Park is
also expected to spur local cargo
growth in PTP and tap the large
consolidation market currently
situated in Singapore and act as a
catalyst for the development of
logistics and distribution
activities.
PTP
has to date secured main anchor
tenants including Pelepas
Logistics with two warehouses,
Kenwood Logistics, Tiong Nam and
MIEL (Malaysian Industrial
Estates) and JB Cocoa.
According
to Omar, who spent more than a
quarter century with Johor Port
managing areas of activities,
including container and bulk
operations, warehousing and
logistics said the company
expected to work with strategic
partners in forging ahead its
distribution and logistics
activities beyond the hinterland
of Johor.
