Independent Chinese carrier, Dalian Winland Shipping has become the latest
in the number of shipping lines seizing the opportunity to start new or
expand shipping services to serve the burgeoning China trade.
Dalian Winland has mounted a fortnightly service linking China with Malaysia
at Northport, Port Klang.
The new service will commence with the maiden voyage of 1200-TEU Winland
Dalian to Northport in Port Klang on 2 September 2005.
The new service is seen as a move to meet the demands of the Malaysia-Sino
trade that has been recording an impressive double-digit growth rate
recently.
“We have noticed an increasing number of new players entering the sector
with new services but we are convinced that Dalian Winland’s expansion to
the Malaysian market will represent a major benefit to shippers in Malaysia
as well as in China in the current booming market,” said the general manager
of Barwil Agencies, Mr Kenneth Wong. Barwil Agencies is the local agent for
Winland Shipping.
Malaysia-Sino trade volume recorded RM58 billion in the first six months
period of this year.
China now accounts for 12.6 per cent of Malaysia’s external trade that
totaled RM458.7 billion in the first half of this year.
The statistics released by the Department of Statistics shows that exports
to China stood at RM31.20 billion of the total outbound trade values at
RM253.3 billion in the first half of this year.
“We are confident that the Dalian’s entry into the Malaysian market is a
timely response to cope with the increasing demand. The cake is big and
growing and we have our own niche market. We will be deploying two of our
mid-range carriers with 1,200 TEUs capacitu each in the trade and hope to
expand the capacity, and frequency if the trade volume picks-up,” said
Kenneth.
Kenneth said currently Dalian Winland Shipping is deploying two carriers (Windland
Dalian and Germana) with 1,200 TEUs carrying capacity each in the trade lane
and will call Northport every Thursday.
“We are confident of filling the slots allocated by our principal for the
Port Klang - China trade route,” said Kenneth.
He said the operators are selected Northport as the base port in Malaysia
for the service because of its high service level.
The port of rotation of the service connects Port Klang, Bayu Quan, Qingdao,
Shanghai and Ningbo.
“We will be the only carrier in the market to offer a direct connection
between Port Klang and Bayu Quan in China with transit time of 11 days,”
said Kenneth.
As the member of the Shanghai Shipping Exchange, Dalian Windland Shipping
offers personalized service and also provides fast and direct links other
major Chinese ports.
