OOCL Atlanta to Call Northport

Yet another mega container ship belonging to Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) will make its maiden call at Northport in Port Klang reflecting the growing confidence in the capability of the port.

The 8,063 TEUs size container ship, OOCL Atlanta, will call Port Klang on Thursday (14 April 2005).

The SX class vessel OOCL Atlanta deployed in the Grand Alliance’s Super Shuttle Express service with 42 days round voyage.

The port of rotation of the service covers Port Klang, Singapore, Yantian, Hong Kong, Long Beach, Kaohsiung, Hong Kong, Shekou, Singapore and Port Klang.

Meanwhile Orient Overseas (International) Ltd, the parent company of OOCL has announced a profit after taxation and minority interests of US$670.4 million for the year ended 31st December 2004, a 104 per cent increase over the attributable profit of US$329 million recorded in 2003.
OOCL says business confidence continued to remain buoyant throughout the year and, as a result, total lifting were increased by 21.6 per cent compared with 2003 in which year they had increased by 18.7per cent. Importantly also, the average load factor for 2004 showed a 2.4 per cent improvement over 2003.

“2005 expected to be a challenging yet successful year for the container shipping. Consumer confidence and demand in the major import economies of Europe and North America are maintaining their strength. Meanwhile, we have seen a large growth in manufacturing in Asia, especially China, creating new sources of cargo. We at OOCL are well prepared to serve our customers’ needs in all these areas with our added tonnage, which includes OOCL Atlanta,” said the Chairman of OOCL, CC Tung.
