MASA-IKMAL organise shipping conference

An interactive session in which participants could seek free legal advise on chartering from top maritime lawyers from London will be one of the attractions at the two-day international shipping conference jointly organized by Malaysian Shipowners Association (MASA) and Institut Kelautan Malaysia (IKMAL)

  

The MarinTrans International Shipping Conference to be held Kuala Lumpur from 22-23 October, 2001 will also feature another top Asian legal expert in shipping, Dato Jude P Benny from Singapore who will give participants an insight into debt collection problems and issues in the maritime industry.

  

The Minister of Transport, Malaysia, Dato’ Seri Dr Ling Liong Sik, has been invited to open the conference which will feature 20 papers to be presented by leading speakers from overseas and locally.

  

The conference will also host a CEO’s Forum on Shipping in Asia: The Challenges and a technical forum.

  

The CEO’s forum will be coordinated by the Chairman of MASA, Dato Haji Mohd Ali Yasin (managing director of MISC Bhd) and will include CEO’s of shipping companies in Singapore and Indonesia. 

There will be six sessions focusing on:

  • Port Development & Growth

  • Manpower & Standards in Maritime Industry

  • Regulatory Regimes in Shipping

  • Technical Developments

  • Commercial Developments

  • Developments in Surface Transport
