Saybolt tests bunker quality

Saybolt (M) Sdn Bhd has won a four-year contract to supply a laboratory; inspection and testing services for Chevron Texaco FAMM for its new FAMM Indah Bunkering Terminal in Port Klang.
 
Its general manager, Eric Smith said the company has invested close to RM2 million setting-up an on-site laboratory to handle various inspections of petroleum products.
 
The laboratory is equipped to meet the exacting safety standards of Chevron Texaco and is well equipped with smoke/heat detectors, fire fighting equipment, drench shower and eye baths, efficient air/fume extractors and flame proof chemical storage.
 
Saybolt started operation at FAMM Indah Bunker Terminal with MT Spirit, a tanker which discharged the first shipment of 61,000 MT of fuel oil for FAMM on October 25, this year.
 
Eric said the petroleum lab manned by four chemists poised to deliver efficient and quality service without sacrificing on the accuracy of the inspection results and analysis reports.
 
"We will be running full-fledged 24 hours operation when FAMM Indah Bunkering Terminal increases it blending operation early next year," said Eric..
 
The core activities of Saybolt include loading/discharge inspection of various type of petroleum products, laboratory services, marine inspection-draft survey, cargo and marine insurance survey and calibration of storage tanks.
 
"I am proud to say that Saybolt is the only company with complete range of independent laboratory service at this time. We are in the position to provide wide range of inspection and testing service to petroleum and petrochemical industrial users," he added.
 
The company serves Chevron Texaco, Exxon Mobil, Caltex, BP, ConocoPhillips, Petronas, Shell and also various oil traders and distributors.
 
Saybolt's new facility within the FAMM Indah Bunkering Terminal is the company's third laboratory in Port Klang.
 
The first facility is at the Fimachem Terminal at Northport (Malaysia) Bhd and also operates a chemical laboratory in Stolthaven Terminal at Westport.
 
Saybolt has also operates a facility in Kuantan Port for the petrochemical shippers in the Eastern Corridor.
 
"Our facility is based at the Dovechem Terminal, the biggest common tank farm in Kuantan Port serving shippers in the East Coast," said Eric.
 
Besides that Saybolt has offices in Penang, Kerteh, Melaka, Pasir Gudang, Bintulu, Sandakan with 75 personnel throughout Malaysia.
 
The company's local operation is supported by an international network of offices in well above 200 location worldwide.
