Kyoto Express to Call Port Klang

The Kyoto Express, Hapag-Lloyd’s latest mega containership, will be calling Port Klang on January 12, 2006. The 8,750 teus carrying ship with a capacity of 104,000t is one of the world’s largest containerships. The main engine with its output of nearly 70,000 kW provides a speed of 25 knots, almost 50 km/h.

The Kyoto Express is a giant containership the size of over three football fields which draws 335m long and 43m wide is deployed in the Grand Alliance’s, Far East-Europe route on the round route Shanghai, Xiamen, Yantian, Hong Kong, Singapore, Southampton, Hamburg, Rotterdam, Port Klang and Hong Kong again.

Hapag-Lloyd transported 2.4 million TEUs in 2004 specializes mainly in the global East-West routes, is regarded as the leader in its sector in terms of customer orientation, service and productivity. Hapag-Lloyd has more than 260 offices in over 90 countries. Its 57 containerships (as of: 11/2005) are deployed primarily on the main routes Europe-Asia, Europe-North America and North America-Asia. Hapag-Lloyd will take delivery of a further seven ships with a capacity of 8,750 TEU up to 2008.

Meanwhile, CP Ships and Hapag-Lloyd begin to rationalize services Plans are set for the first in a series of service rationalizations: the combining of services between the West Mediterranean, the US East Coast and the Gulf of Mexico from February 2006.
