Catalytic role of Kuantan port

Kuantan Port is increasingly looked upon as a major consideration for manufacturers and port users looking to operate in the East Coast Industrial corridor.

“The higher level of business friendly service offered by the port, and its record as an efficient, safe, and reliable port had been a positive factor in attracting investors to the east coast,” said Executive Vice Chairman of KPC, Dato’ Haji Shamsudin Md. Dubi

Dato Shamsudin said for much of last year Kuantan Port focused on improving further the level of productivity, striving for greater operational efficiency.

He said port was pro-active and sensitive to users’ requirements.

“Kuantan Port can and does tailor-make facilities in order to fulfill specific needs of the industry. Quite recently we improvised the link span method at the ro-ro terminal, providing our clients an alternative way for speedier handling of iron ore. This innovation has to a certain extent reduced spillage of iron ore during loading,” said Shamsudin in ports latest newsletter.

“In view of the substantial increase of barge-borne palm oil to be handled at Kuantan Port, we are also looking into creative ways for expanding oil palm handling facilities. The current palm oil jetty will be extended and modified for barge operations,” he said.

He also said a new service jetty would be constructed for the pipe coating industry to achieve greater efficiency in handling barge borne cargo.

“We will continue being proactive and responsive to a transforming hinterland. We have little doubt that in the long term Kuantan Port will be the distribution hub for the region,” he said.
