Northport integrates port users in e-commerce drive

Consistent with its growing importance in the global marketplace, Northport Malaysia – the country’s premier sea outlet – is well ahead with plans to deliver digitized services over the Internet by providing an integrative and dynamic environment for its users.

The port is at the forefront of transforming the trading environment through its new web-based applications that will have a refined process model for e-commerce related B2B and B2C transactions.

The new applications will supplement the port’s existing success Client Access System, the real-time inter-active system that drives the client interface for container operations at the port.

The applications, according to Northport take a web-centric approach leveraging on the global outreach of the internet and provide lower cost of connectivity.

The highly integrated and interactive trading environment is expected to energe next year and bring shipping lines, hauliers, shippers and port activities closer whereby North Port would act as a main point for the shipping of goods.

The extent and the pervasive application of the IT has already won the port commendation with it being picked for the CI0 100 HONOUREE 2002" award by the Singapore-based CIO publication.

The award singles out Northport for its success in being able to apply IT to deliver innovations, value and good returns in its total logistics port operations.

Northport said in constantly pursuing a high degree of professionalism in its operational environment the use of leading-edge IT technology becomes one of the hallmark features of Northport competitiveness as a world class port

Northport is working with lines such as P&O Nedlloyd, OOCL and members of the Grand Alliance and other people like the hauliers, importers and exporters.

“From the onset of Northport operations it has always been the management belief and commitment that a full-scale deployment of intelligent systems infrastructure would lead towards creating value for customers while nurturing a technologically-driven corporate culture,” the port said.

“The CIO 100 award recognition marks the progressive cornerstone of Northport’s quantum leap entry to Asia's most prestigious index of progressive enterprise for the year,” it added.

An ISO 9002 certified company, Northport was voted the 5th best seaport and container terminal operator in Asia for the Asian Freight Industry Award and subsequently the top ten Best Employer in Malaysia.
