Kuantan
Port Consortium Sdn Bhd is
developing an e-Commerce
application for its port
community.
“Given
the increasing importance of the
Internet to support e-activities
and knowledge intensive activities
KPC has to develop Business to
Consumer (B2C) application for its
port users. This will allow the
port to fully implement and
execute on-line transaction said
the IT Manager, Aisah Abdullah.
With
this application Kuantan Port able
to market its services and
facilities extensively on
real-time basis to shippers and
global liners.
The
B2C application is also in
response to the development taking
shape in the ICT industry.
“This
is our Phase II development of
e-Commerce application within our
port community. The B2C solution
will place greater attention on
safety and security measures,”
stressed the IT manager of KPC.
According
to Aisah, KPC has developed a
web-based platform under its Phase
I development which has been
tested and found working well.
Generally
the web-based information has been
classified under two main
categories. The first being the
general information on arrival and
departure of ships at KPC
terminal, details status of
container boxes at Kuantan Port
and also the container information
based on ship calls and ships. All
these information can be accessed
by anybody by browsing the Kuantan
Port site, www.kuantanport.com.my.
The
web-based enquiry has further
increased the awareness about the
port in the global shipping and
port industry.
“The
information is being updated daily
to ensure real-time information
disseminated to our port users,”
she added.
The
second category information is
private information which only can
be accessed by a user with his/her
user name and password.
Among
the information shippers can
access from the site includes
company information, latest
invoice and debtors ageing status.
“By
doing this we are not only
providing comprehensive
information on ships calls at our
terminal but also protecting our
valuable customers vital company
information from third parties,”
said Aisah.
