The
Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP),
which hopes to handle two million
TEUs this year, has in the first
nine months of the year netted
1.48 million TEUs.
The
port hit its highest quarterly
throughput when it handled 560,000
TEUs in third quarter of this
year, up from the 541,000 TEUs in
handled in the second quarter.
According
to the port productivity levels in
the third quarter rose to 28 gross
moves per hour per crane ensuring
its continued improvement in
providing excellent service
levels. During the period PTP also
enhanced its capacity with the
delivery of an additional five
quay cranes.
The chief executive officer of PTP,
Mohd Sidek Shaik Osman said the
progress in throughput was
significant against the present
gloomy
economic outlook.
PTP's
growth in volumes reflect strong
user confidence, he noted.
“The
increasing local support has also
helped maintain good growth
levels. With current economic
levels uncertain, PTP is
increasing all measures to secure
new users to the terminal. What
helps is the excellent
productivity levels at PTP,” he
said.
