The Malaysian Industrial Estates (MIEL)
is all set to seize the expanding
opportunities in value-adding
activities in distribution and
logistics with the setting of its
MIEL Logistics Center in Pelabuhan
Tanjung Pelepas, the emerging
logistics heartland in southern
Peninsular Malaysia.
The facility owned by MIEL, a well
established property developer will
be officially launched by the Deputy
Transport Minister, YB Tan Sri Dato'
Seri Diraja Ramli Ngah Talib on 29
October 2002.
The logistics facility is located on
a 7.3 acres land in Free Commercial
Zone of Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepas
offering direct accessibility by
road and road to national grids.
The modern warehouse facility covers
100,000 sq ft. and an additional
50,000 sq ft warehouse facilities is
being built to further expand
capacity and capability of the
center, which is expected to cater
for the fast growing e-goods and
automotives consolidation
activities.
To date MIEL Logistics has invested
some RM20 million for the
acquisition of land and the
construction of warehouse
facilities.
MIEL Logistics Center will be
operated by MIEL Logistics Sdn Bhd.,
a joint venture entity between MIEL
and the Johor-based Tebrau Dynamic
Logistics Sdn Bhd.
The launching the logistics center
this week will be followed by the
signing of the shareholders
agreement between the share holders
of the new logistics company.
MIEL owns the controlling stake of
80 per cent of the logistics company
and the remaining 20 per cent stake
by Tebrau Dynamic Logistics.
The Tebrau Dynamic is a logistics
company set up by Haji Omar Haji
Salleh, a former General Manager
Operations from Johor Port Berhad.
Tebrau Dynamics Logistics is one of
the three logistics companies under
the state-level Global Supplier
Programme which signed a MOU earlier
last year with the Port of Tanjung
Pelepas which had been identified by
the state government as the
logistics and distribution center.
The establishment of MIEL Logistics
center within PTP's Distribution
Park is expected to further spur
distribution trade at PTP and tap
the large consolidation market away
from Singapore and act as a catalyst
for the development of logistics and
distribution activities.
PTP has to date secured main anchor
tenants including Pelepas Logistics,
Kenwood Logistics, Maersk Logistics,
Tiong Nam, Usra and and JB Cocoa.
Recognising the huge potential in
the development of logistics and
distribution sector, MIEL will be
focusing its future property
development towards logistics and
distribution activities.
MIEL has identified four new sites
in Peninsula Malaysia for this
purpose. This includes one
distribution center in Bukit Kayu
Hitam and another similar facility
in Sg. Petani.
The development of these facilities
in the Northern region is timely
with the full implementation of Afta.
MIEL has also identified a strategic
location in Gebeng Industrial area
in Pahang for the petrochemical
based value-adding activities.
