Kuantan Port Consortium Sdn Bhd (KPC)
a wholly-owned subsdiary of Road
Builder (M) Holdings Bhd has
expanded the scope of its port
operations to operate port
facilities and services at Kemaman
Port, located 40 km north of Kuantan
Port.
KPC operates the 510 metre long West
Wharf which recently saw the
berthing of a 190-metre bulk
carrier, Pacific Primate which
discharged steel plates at Kemaman
port.
Prior to the management and
operation of the West Wharf by KPC
the facility was handled by PTB West
Wharf Sdn Bhd.
KPC managing director Datuk Mohamed
Awang Tera said West Wharf would
allow Kuantan Port to cater for the
bigger capacity carriers.
The port which draws 17 metres of
depth is capable of accommodating
any mega size carriers but also will
complement the berthing requirement
for the bulk cargo operations.
To promote the facility, KPC is
carrying out a marketing drive to
expand the usage of the bulk cargo
facilities for other prospective
clients in the immediate hinterland
of Kemaman Port like Telok Kalong
Industrial Estate, Jakar Industrial
Estate and Teluk Arun Industrial
Estate.
According to Dato' Mohamed, Road
Builder, has also submitted its
proposal under the Konsortium
Pelabuhan Kemaman Sdn Bhd to manage
and operate Kemaman Port.
The Economic Planning Unit in the
Prime Minister's Department is
finalizing the detail of the
proposal submitted by the consortium
members to operate and manage the
East Wharf and Liqiud chemical berth
at Kemaman Port.
He said currently KPC has mobilized
a team from Kuantan Port to handle
ship at West Wharf in Kemaman. Once
the approval from the EPU is
received a separate operational unit
at Kemaman under the purview of KPC
will be set up.
