Geodis strengthens Malaysian operation 

Geodis expects to strengthen its logistic solution and emerge as a fast growing total logistics solution provider in the region.

From a company that was traditionally focused in the air and sea freight forwarding services, the company has expanded into offering third and fourth party logistics solution, said the Vice president for international operation of Geodis, Mathiu Patrick.

Patrick who was in Kuala Lumpur recently said Geodis plans to expand its operation horizontally and vertically in Asia.

“Asia is one of the fast expanding areas. We expect the demand for logistics sector in Asia (North Asia and South Asia) to grow between 25-30 per cent in 2005,’ he said.

He said although the company was a new player in the Malaysian market its turnover has now reached a creditable RM30 million in 2004 and expects to a turnover of RM40 million by end of this year.

He said the company had won a contract to provide yard management and third party logistics solution for Daimler Chrysler Malaysia passenger car division.

“We offer an integrated, total services including clearance of inbound sea import shipment from Daimler Chrysler Malaysia market worldwide, transportation of containers from the port to Daimler Chrysler Malaysia manufacturing plant in Johor Bahru and Petaling Jaya,” he said.

Besides the automotives sector, Geodis is a market leader in the provision of logistics services in the cross border trade.

The company provides groupage and full trailer loading service fro movements of hard drive components and re-cycled materials between Seagate’s Singapore and Thailand plants.

Geodis also carries components and materials from Seagate suppliers in Singapore and Malaysia to its plant in Khorat and Theparuk in Thailand.

“Our cross-border trade expanding very fast and today we are making approximately 340 round-trip per month between Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore,” he said.

The company has established six major operation sites namely in Kelana Jaya, Bukit Kayu Hitam, Butterworth, Johor Bahru and in Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepa where it operates 12,000 sq.ft warehouse to cope with fast expanding movement of cargoes between Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore.
