Port
of Tanjung Pelepas has announced
measures to move on aggressively
to market its facilities and
services to shippers in the
country and overseas despite a
setback it received last week with
the loss of APL’s West Asia
Express service.
The
port, which has breached the total
traffic it handled last year with
the estimated 540,000 TEUs handled
in the first four months of this
year, is targeting shippers in the
United States, Europe, the Middle
East and Far East including
Indo-China, the Indian
sub-continent and Southeast Asia.
PTP
said shippers using the from/to
U.S. will enjoy fast transit time
benefits of a minimum of 16 - 17
days while the transit time
from/to Europe via PTP will be a
minimum of 16 days with the direct
services provided by mainline
operators.
Locally,
the campaign will target local
shippers in Johor who will gain
from the direct calls to U.S. and
Europe as an alternative to the
double handling and feedering
costs to regional ports, it said
PTP’s
chief executive officer Mohd Sidik
Shaik Osman said that " We
are a relatively new port,
reaching out to shippers directly
will also guarantee maximum
exposure for the port and the
lines utilising PTP. This is also
aimed at thrusting PTP to be
South-east Asia's leading
transhipment port."
Markets
targetted in this area include
Indo China, Indian Sub Continent
and South-east Asia. PTP's
increasing feeder connections,
which stands at 16 connections per
week by MCC Transport, Sembawang
Kimtrans, Bayswater, QC Line,
Orient Express Line (OEL), Bengal
Tiger Line (BTL) and Bangladesh
Shipping Corp (BSC) will be an
important factor in attracting
more shippers.
