The
International Tanker Operators (Intertanko)
Council looks to have gone further
on shipowner transparency that had
been anticipated, paving the way for
hitherto confidential information on
the condition of vessels controlled
by its 250 shipowning members to be
released into the public domain.
Intertanko
has advised members to revise the
confidentiality clauses negotiated
with insurers in a move which could
see the sweeping away one of the
main barriers to the class societies
reporting the history of vessels
involved in major incidents.
The
move sanctions class societies to
make available information
concerning ships which have become
overdue on their class surveys,
ships which are overdue on their
statutory surveys, ships with
expired statutory surveys and ships
which have been suspended from class
or have had their class status
withdrawn.
In
response to criticism by the IACS
that its hands have been tied by
shipowner confidentially, Intertanko
has asked its members to publish
full information on their vessels.
This should include vessels history,
from details of the initial design,
through the history or ownership,
manager, flag, class, flag and a
full description or any significant
repairs undertaken.
Information
released is also to include the
identity of any party issuing Ship
Management Code certificate, details
of the voyage where the incident
occurred, the results of at least
the last 12 months of port state
control inspections, all previous
names of the vessel and any
significant casualties in which the
vessel had been involved.
