With
an appropriate tag-line “Because
It Is A Jungle Out There”
Procurehere, a novel electronic way
to submit tenders for projects,
promises to bring greater
transparency in tender exercises
that is often fraught with
corruption and bribery.
It
is a jungle out there in tender
exercises because only the fittest
(interpreted here as those who are
able to grease the palm) survive but
procurehere, launched recently has
already offered significant savings
to companies keen to secure best
price for tendered projects.
In
Malaysia, the transport companies
like Westport and Diperdana Holdings
have already reported savings for
projects the companies tendered via
the on-line Procurehere bidding.
Promising
greater transparency, as well as
eliminating redundancies and
lowering cost, Procurehere has
handled about RM100 million worth of
purchase todate, notably one
involving the tender for the
construction of a RM33 million
container yard at Westport that
brought a savings of 15 per cent to
the company.
The
web-based application Procurehere
was developed by Procurehere Sdn Bhd
incubated and funded by Makmal.com
Sdn Bhd.
According
to Procurehere Sdn Bhd chairman,
Dato Saifuddin Abdullah Procurehere
was well positioned as a Procurement
Service Provider to guarantee
highest of standards in terms of
consulting, purchasing, sourcing or
outsourcing.
“Furthermore,
Procurehere is in the front line of
the industry because the company is
flexible in its arrangements in
direct response to the customers
needs,” he said.
On-line
procurement is now increasingly
being adopted by major companies,
including the likes of IBM which is
reported to have saved about US$9
billion on the on-line bidding for
parts, supplies and processes as
well as Cisco which saved
US$1billion and British Telecom
which saved sterling 60 million.
According
to the company’s managing
director, Ashok Panchalingam said
the recent successes demonstrated
that suppliers in Malaysia are
indeed ready to support the on-line
bidding process.
