Palm Oil Berth Upgraded

With the increasing number of calls from medium and handy sized clean product tankers at the Kuantan Port, KPC has decided to upgrade existing Palm Oil Berth.

Work on the upgrading work is progressing well and is expected to be completed soon.

The completion of the upgrading work on the berth will allow two medium-sized tankers to berth at the outer berth of the port simultaneously compared with the present berthing of one larger size carriers of 54,000 displacement tonnes.

The outer berth draws 250 metres and has a natural depth of 11.5 metres.

Meanwhile, the inner palm oil berth at Kuantan Port designed to handle smaller carriers of 8,000 displacement tonnes.

Of recent, the 150-metre berth has been congested with increasing number of smaller carrier in the palm oil trade.

The completion of Palm Oil Berth will further reduce vessel stay at the port and also improve the turnaround time for clean product tankers calling at Kuantan Port.

Last year the Palm Oil Berth at Kuantan Port handled 265 ships and contributed 43.47 per cent of the liquid bulk cargo throughput handled at Kuantan Port.
