Northport rolls out E-SSR

Northport at Port Klang has rolled out its electronic version of “Special Service Request Form” (E-SSR).

The pilot run of the special request commenced middle of January with 10 shipping lines.

All shipping lines involved in the pilot run project have expressed satisfaction with the system aimed at catering for special services from users of Northport, it said in a statement.

Northport’s Container Terminal Two Manager, Yeo Kim Hoe said the internally developed system allows forwarding/shipping agents to do away with the manual submission.

Prior to e-SSR, shipping agents or forwarding companies who need any special service need to fax their requests and follow-up with phone calls or send their officers to ensure their requests are in place before arrival of the ship.

Under the new system, they can submit their e-SSR via Northport Client Access System for approval.

Upon receiving the electronically submitted form, Northport will send an approval note to shipping agents on their request for change of operator, change of vessel and other requirements for their operation.

The system will be extended to other shipping lines calling at Northport by March 2005. Among the lines involved in the pilot-run are Hapag-Lloyd, Yi Chun Shipping, NYK Agencies, Wan Hai Lines, PDZ Shipping Agency, Donna Shipping, Selatan Agency, EM Shipping, Yang Ming Line and Jambatan Merah Shipping.
