Northport acquires Port Klang Distribution Park

In a move aimed at integrating vertically and horizontally its activities, Northport Corporation Bhd has acquired Port Klang Distribution Park Sdn Bhd, the sole operator of a distribution center in the Free Commercial Zone in Northport, from the Peremba Group and Port Klang Authority.

The move further consolidates the position of Northport in the national transportation scene in its bid to become a major integrated transport operator providing port services to warehousing, distribution, haulage and related services.

"The acquisition will provide Northport with the critical advantage in expanding its scope of services within the total logistics chain and to position Port Klang as a major distribution centre," said the chairman of Northport Corporation Bhd, Tan Sri Dato' Seri Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid.

PKDP was established in 1993 as the pioneer distribution centre situated on  a2.8 ha site within the North Port FCZ.

PKDP is a one-stop integrated total logistics and distribution centre to support pre-shipment, transhipment and post-shipment activities at Northport.

The centre equipped with four warehouse facilities with  44,221 sq m  area offers  full range of warehousing and value adding activities.

He added the acquisition of the distribution park is to meet customer's specific needs, in the ever increasing demand for more integrated services rising from the surge in the global trade.

The strategic location of PKDP in the FCZ deemed to be outside the Customs area and minimizes documentation, procedures, Customs supervision as well as easing cash flow on duty for cargo meant for Malaysian market.

PKDP is electronically linked to the  respective agencies such as Customs, Free Zone Authority and Electronic Data Interchange to facilitate arrangement like paper clearance, booking of vessel and relevant logistics activities.
