Dovechem confident of local market

Dovechem Kuantan Sdn Bhd, a leading tank farm operator, plans to further expand further its tank farm facilities at Kuantan Port to meet rising demand for its services.

 

A pioneer in the third-party tank farm solution provider in Dovechem Kuantan is confident there is a vast market for tank farm capacity in the light of the rapid expansion of the petrochemical industries in the eastern corridor of Peninsular Malaysia.

 

The company’s vice president of Dovechem Kuantan, Ng Koon Sinn said: “ In view of anticipate expansion in demand, we are committed to building more tank farms at Kuantan port.”

 

He said the company completed nine storage tanks with total capacity of 9,750 cbm in October 2000 and another nine tanks comprising six units of 1,350m3 tank and 3 units of 950m3 tank were completed middle of last year.

 

“With the available land bank within the area we can develop an additional 12 tanks which capable of handling some 30,000 –40,000 m3 of various chemical,” Ng added.

 

He said if the need arises the company was ready to acquire additional area from Kuantan Port Consortium Sdn Bhd, the operator of Kuantan port.

 

“Despite the global slow down, we expect Dovechem Terminal Sdn Bhd, which offers customised storage and handling services for a wide range of bulk liquid chemicals and petrochemicals industries, to grow by another 10 per cent this year,” Ng said.

 

The terminal, which located within the immediate hinterland of Kuantan port, handled 100,000 m3 of various chemical products via Kuantan port last year.

 

Dovechem Kuantan has been growing rapidly in recent years. 

 

The company operates a total of 41 tanks with handling capacity in access of 50,000 m3 with Dovechem Terminals providing a complete package of services for chemical industry including handling bulk liquid cargo from sea tanker to storage at the liquid bulk terminal in Kuantan Port.

 

A total of 12 docklines with 6” and 8” diameter linked the company’s storage facilities with the liquid chemical berth 1, Mineral oil Berth and also liquid chemical berth 2 of Kuantan Port.

 

“Kuantan Port is our ideal gateway to reach Thailand, Indochina, the Far East and the west coast of USA market,” Ng said.

 

Dovechem Kuantan, which started operations in 1986, is one of the first public bonded warehouses for liquid chemical storage.

 

The company services include bulk storage, custom clearance for import and export, loading into tank trucks and ISO tankers, repacking into 209 litres drums, container stuffing facilities and provides open and covered drum storage warehouse.

 

Dovechem Kuantan, which has been, accredited the prestigious ISO9002 certification, handles almost 70 per cent of the petrochemical giants’ storage requirement at the Gebeng Industrial area.

 

To ensure fast and reliable transport services Dovechem Transport Sdn Bhd was set up to provide transportation services throughout Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore with six offices at strategic location namely Klang, Johor, Melaka, Penang, Kuantan and Singapore. The group operates a total of 67 prime movers and 40 road tankers.

 

“Besides providing storage facilities, the company has  also established Dovechem Chemical Industries Kuantan Sdn. Bhd to produces formalin and wide range of thermosetting resin.

 

“Our formalin plant in Kuantan can produce 30,000 tonnes of formalin and 36,000 tonnes of resin per annum. These products are widely is being used in plywood, particleboard, MDF board and furniture manufacturing,” said Ng.

 

Globally, Dovechem Group has more than 30 member companies in the Asia Pacific region operating tank farms in Shanghai, Shenzhen, Singapore and Merak in Indonesia.
