It has become certain that more than 40 LNG carrier newbuildings will be
ordered across the world in 2005.
A new survey by Kaiji Press indicates that at least 44 vessels are to be
procured in connection with the LNG projects being pushed by Qatar's Ras
Laffan Liquefied Natural Gas Co. III (RasGas III), Yemen LNG Co. (YLNG) and
Indonesia's Tangguh LNG. Further, there is the possibility of additional
orders being placed in a series of projects involving Qatar, Iran and China.
The total number of LNG vessels to be procured this year will well exceed
40, though it may fall short of the record 65 registered in 2004 when
shipyards basked in an unprecedented LNG tanker boom |
