Century Logistics cross the century mark

Century Logistics Holdings Berhad, which gained listing on the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange recently, has posted an impressive year with turnover exceeding RM100 million during the financial period ended 31 December, 2000.

The group's turnover increased from RM68.6 million recorded in 1999 to RM103.1 million last year.

After tax profit rose to a new record of RM10.3 million in the financial period ended December 31 2000 from  RM7.6 million achieved in  the previous financial year.

Century Group, the second board listed company in the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange is one of the key player offering third-party logistics solution. The  Logistics sector contributed some RM90 million during the financial year ended 31 December 2000 compared with RM52 million in the previous financial period.

The chairman of Century Group, Datuk Syed Ahmad Khalid bin Syed Mohammed said the Century Group with its strategic alliances, is well poised to provide a comprehensive range of logistics management services to meet the discerning needs of its various clients.

Datuk Syed said being a third party logistics provider, the company would fuse the traditional components of logistics, comprising forwarding, transportation, warehousing and other ancillary services to the customers’ supply chain management.

“Supply chain management essentially amalgamates the entire function of managing the entire chain from procurement of raw materials right through to distribution of finished products,” he added.

Earnings from the value-added activities rose by more than 60 per cent to RM44.2 million from RM27.5 million during the period under review.

As at 31st December, 2000, the Century Group occupies a total warehouse space in excess  of 1.3 million sq,ft., of which more than 600,000 sq.ft. is of covered story.

Apart from the warehouse operations, the  Group also operates a fleet of more  than 70 conventional trucks.

Datuk Syed Ahmad said the future performance of Century Group was encouraging based on the diversification activities carried out by the group.

The group launched its container haulage operations in early this year with 30 prime movers together with 162 trailers and 4 side-loaders.

Meanwhile the acquisition of Brilliant Pattern for RM6.3 million, a company which specialize in repackaging, international procurement, assembly and quality control before redistribution would allow the group to offer truly integrated logistics services.

“We have also entered an agreement with Titan Oil  Pte Ltd to provide ship-to-ship transfer operations in Johor Bharu. For the first two years, the operations will be carried out within the waters of Pasir Gudang Port and subsequently, the Century Group will set up a proper on-shore bunkering terminal with terminal with the principal, Titan Oil Pte.Ltd,” he said.
