Century
Logistics Holdings Berhad, which
gained listing on the Kuala Lumpur
Stock Exchange recently, has
posted an impressive year with
turnover exceeding RM100 million
during the financial period ended
31 December, 2000.
The
group's turnover increased from
RM68.6 million recorded in 1999 to
RM103.1 million last year.
After
tax profit rose to a new record of
RM10.3 million in the financial
period ended December 31 2000 from
RM7.6 million achieved in
the previous financial year.
Century
Group, the second board listed
company in the Kuala Lumpur Stock
Exchange is one of the key player
offering third-party logistics
solution. The Logistics
sector contributed some RM90
million during the financial year
ended 31 December 2000 compared
with RM52 million in the previous
financial period.
The
chairman of Century Group, Datuk
Syed Ahmad Khalid bin Syed
Mohammed said the Century Group
with its strategic alliances, is
well poised to provide a
comprehensive range of logistics
management services to meet the
discerning needs of its various
clients.
Datuk
Syed said being a third party
logistics provider, the company
would fuse the traditional
components of logistics,
comprising forwarding,
transportation, warehousing and
other ancillary services to the
customers’ supply chain
management.
“Supply
chain management essentially
amalgamates the entire function of
managing the entire chain from
procurement of raw materials right
through to distribution of
finished products,” he added.
Earnings
from the value-added activities
rose by more than 60 per cent to
RM44.2 million from RM27.5 million
during the period under review.
As
at 31st December, 2000, the
Century Group occupies a total
warehouse space in excess of
1.3 million sq,ft., of which more
than 600,000 sq.ft. is of covered
story.
Apart
from the warehouse operations, the
Group also operates a fleet of
more than 70 conventional
trucks.
Datuk
Syed Ahmad said the future
performance of Century Group was
encouraging based on the
diversification activities carried
out by the group.
The
group launched its container
haulage operations in early this
year with 30 prime movers together
with 162 trailers and 4
side-loaders.
Meanwhile
the acquisition of Brilliant
Pattern for RM6.3 million, a
company which specialize in
repackaging, international
procurement, assembly and quality
control before redistribution
would allow the group to offer
truly integrated logistics
services.
“We
have also entered an agreement
with Titan Oil Pte Ltd to
provide ship-to-ship transfer
operations in Johor Bharu. For the
first two years, the operations
will be carried out within the
waters of Pasir Gudang Port and
subsequently, the Century Group
will set up a proper on-shore
bunkering terminal with terminal
with the principal, Titan Oil
Pte.Ltd,” he said.
