Favelle Favco supplies RTG's to PTP

Favelle Favco Cranes (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd has supplied six units of rubber-tyred gantry cranes for the Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP). The RM23.2 million worth of land site container handling equipment is being erected at PTP's container yard and is expected to be ready for commercial operation by end August 2001.

The system utilizing Siemens drive systems can stack containers 1 over 5 high and 7 containers across. The new fleet will complement the existing 36 units in the yard and bring the total fleet to 42 units.

"The 6 RTGs are part of our Phase One procurement plans. The delivery of these RTGs is timely and will ensure PTP's ability to cater towards existing and future customers," said the chief executive officer of PTP, Mohd Sidik Shaik Osman.

With this addition, PTP now has a fleet of 14 Super Post-Panamax quay cranes & 2 mobile harbour cranes, 42 units of RTGs and a full complement of prime movers, trailers and other ancillary equipment.

Full Phase One procurement plans include an additional 10 quay cranes and 30 additional RTGs giving PTP an estimated total handling capacity of 4.5 million TEUs annually by year 2002.
