The
Chartered Institute of Transport
(CIT) (Malaysia National Section)
has announced the inauguration of
Malaysian Transport Industry
Awards to highlight a wider public
acknowledgment of the progress,
achievements and the contributions
of the transport industry to the
national economy.
“The
Transport Industry requires an
event or the platform that could
serve to enhance public’s
perception and image of the
performance of the industry,”
the chairman of the Institute,
Datuk William Lau said.
“As
a national body, which is
committed to ensuring the
evolution of an economical,
efficient and competitive
transport services in the country,
the CIT has taken the initiative
to promote greater awareness of
the growth and development of the
transport industry in the country
by inaugurating the Malaysian
Transport Industry Awards,” he
said.
The
Malaysian Transport Industry
Awards – consisting of Transport
Personality of the Year and
Transport Company of Distinction
– will managed by Ports World
Sdn Bhd, and presented at a gala
dinner to be held on August 13
2001, at a leading hotel in
Petaling Jaya.

A
press released from the Institute
said the Transport Industry Awards
aims to fulfill the following
objectives a number of objectives,
including acknowledge companies or
individuals who have demonstrated
the ability to fulfill specific
national objectives or advance
national policies relating to the
Transport Industry and the
national Economy.
“The
Awards would also act as catalyst
for the operators and
practitioners in the Transport
Industry to strive for greater
excellence and emerge as a
yardstick and establish
“bench-marks” against which
performances of practitioners and
companies in the transport
industry could be measured,”
chairman of the Institute said.
The
selection process will include
nomination by members of the
public, a distinguished panel that
will include representatives from
the government agencies and the
media.
Nominations
will be based an a pre-determined
set of criteria that will give
importance to qualitative
achievement, including application
of Information Communication &
Technology in workplace,
consistent with the emphasis on
the development of the
knowledge-based economy to sustain
a rapid rate of economic growth
and enhance international
competitiveness so as to achieve
the objectives of Vision 2020.
