Northport has won yet another new service following the move by Mitsui
O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) to launch the new service between Nhava Sheva
(Mumbai, India) and the straits (Singapore, Northport in Port Klang).
The first vessel, mv Merito will be calling Northport on 2 April 2005.
The service will to meet expanding cargo traffic to and from India, which is
showing tremendous economic growth.
The service will use three containerships under a space charter agreement
with Singapore-based RCL Feeder Pte. Ltd. said MOL president, Akimitsu
Ashida.
The service will be the first direct service mounted by MOL with RCL between
Port Klang and Nhava Sheva.
Along with two existing services, the change will allow MOL to offer the
three fastest services linking Nhava Sheva and the region and ensure more
stable service to Asia, North America, Oceania, and other markets via
Singapore.
The full port of rotation of the new service covers Port Klang
(Sunday)-Singapore (Monday/Tuesday)-Nhava Sheva (Saturday/Sunday of the
following week)-Port Klang (Saturday).
