THE
Association of Southeast Asian
nations has commissioned a
seven-month study to draw up a
five-year plan for transport and
logisitics within Asean countries.
The
study will concentrate on how
industry players can work together
in the light of the expected surge
in globalisation and trade
liberalisation between 2002 and
2007. With the Asia Free Trade Area
due to come into being in January,
the study is seen as a guide to the
development of ports, shipping
fleets, integrated transport and
logistics, and various other
maritime concerns.
In
the Asia Pacific region, Asean
members account for over 30% of
container traffic.
