Volumes at
Malaysia's Port of Tanjung Pelepas grew 37 per cent in the first half of
2003 boosted by business from Evergreen Marine.
The port neighbouring Singapore handled 1.6 million TEUs in the first six
months of the year compared to 1.17 million TEUs in the same period last
year.
The lion's share of the growth comes from the switch of regional
transhipment hubs by Evergreen Marine to PTP from Singapore at the end of
August last year.
" We are pleased with the growth levels which were positive despite
challenges facing the world economy," Datuk Mohd Sidik Shaik Osman, chief
executive of Tanjung Pelepas said.
"PTP will continue its focus on building up its land base through additional
logistics customers and also the Phase Two terminal expansion." |
