M.V.
Tasman Commander discharged its
first consignment of LOGRACS
recently at Westport.
LOGRACS are a specialised flatrack
developed by Ahrenkiel group
company which is represented by
Ben Line Agencies in Malaysia.
The
arrival of the LOGRACS marks a new
chapter in the transport of logs
as well as coated pipes.
For
instance the first shipment of 6
LOGRACS were discharged from the
vessel just like any ordinary
forty footer equivalent container
in less than 20 minutes. The
6 units contains about 175 cubic
metres of New Zealand Radiata Pine
Logs for a local importer.
In
normal circumstances the
discharging of such log would
normally take about 2 - 3 hours in
Breakbulk form. As such the
LOGRACS provides huge savings in
terms of cost and reducing the
risk of possible damage.
These units can also be used for
the transport of steel bars, beams
and other non-typical container
cargo as well as project cargoes.
The design allows it to be
collapsed; 4 units into one
forty-foot ISO container module,
for cost effective storage and
repositioning back if required.
