An additional new liquid berth at Lumut Maritime
Terminal, in Perak for handling dangerous and
non-dangerous liquid cargoes will be completed
by end of next year to cope with increasing
demand for its facilities.
“With the completion of the liquid bulk berth we
will be able to accommodate three ships
simultaneously,” said Amin Halim Rasip, the
chief executive officer of Lumut Port.
“Currently, we have completed the first phase of
northern pipe racks system for LMT which is
aimed at handling liquid bulk cargoes. To cope
with the growing demand the port is continuously
enhancing its facilities including equipping
with highly-mechanized handling system to cope
with the larger vessels,” said Amin.
Meanwhile the engineering works for a high
volume loading capability is now in advanced
stages of development at the Lekir Bulk Terminal
(LBT).
Expansion of LBT is expected to be undertaken
within next year to meet with the shipper needs
and new interest.
He said Lumut Port, a niche market port, is
strategically located to serve the nearer trades
within South-East Asia and the Far East region.
The port handled 5 million tones of various type
of traffic in the first nine months period of
this year.
Amin also said the port is pursuing with the
plans on the port development in Indonesia in
Aceh Nanggroe Darussalam, Sumatra, Republic of
Indonesia at Kuala Langsa (Greenfield port) and
at Krueng Guekeh (existing port) in partnership
with Pemerintah-Pemerintah Kabupaten.
Several other Sumatra, Kalimantan and Java ports
and specialized terminal remain in negotiation
and in land identification and acquisition
negotiation. |
