Port Klang Authority (PKA) is
expected to call for tenders from consulting
firms to submit proposals to carry out a study
to determine the feasibility of developing a
piece of industrial land adjacent to Sungei
Puloh in Klang to meet the expansion needs of
Northport.
A briefing on the proposed project is expected
to be held for consulting firms tomorrow.
The industrial land, identified by the Selangor
State Government as a maritime corridor, will be
capable of meeting the expanding requirements of
Northport, especially in view of the approach by
the port to broaden its product base.
The industrial area, covering more than 800ha,
with sea frontage, is strategically located
north of Northport to serve the expanding
business in distributive trade, which Northport
is now embarking upon.
Recently, Northport managing director and chief
executive officer Datuk Basheer Hassan Abdul
Kader said the port was looking at the
industrial land for future growth.
"We are proposing to expand the port in the
northern direction and there is enormous
capacity available in 800ha of land near Sungei
Puloh for development," he told a port seminar
in Kuala Lumpur recently.
"I hope in five to 10 years this whole area will
be dramatically different for Northport in terms
of outreach and link with freight corridors,
posing economic linkages, extending geographical
outreach and expanding distribute activities and
fostering new economic growth drivers," he
added.
