The
Selangor Customs Department said Westports in
Port Klang is a model port for fast clearance,
saying it is equipped with the best facilities.
Its director Datuk Mohd Roslan Yusof said the
Customs is pleased with the continuous support
and close cooperation rendered by Westports.
"While overall container volume has dropped,
Customs revenue has increased because of the
good working relationship that we have
established and the support given by Westports
to various Customs' initiatives.
"Additionally, we have good facilities provided
by Westports to carry out our duties," he said
at the Selangor Customs' Hari Raya gathering in
Pulau Indah recently.
In a statement issued on Friday, Westports
Malaysia Sdn Bhd executive director Ruben Emir
Gnanalingam said the port has embarked on new
initiatives with the Royal Malaysian Customs and
other government agencies at the port for fast
clearance of local cargo.
He said the move is to boost the efficiency and
competency of clearing cargoes in Port Klang,
especially at Westports.
Among the initiatives include improving the key
performance indicators, resolving issues and
concerns of freight forwarders and improving the
overall processes that involved government
procedures.
Ruben pointed out that as a gateway for the
nation's trade inventory, Westports and its
business partners are constantly upgrading their
services to better serve the port community.
"We have been working very closely with the
Royal Malaysian Customs and other government
agencies over the past few years.
Constant dialogues and discussions are held on a
quarterly basis to facilitate improved processes
and eliminate archaic practices.
"As a result, we have together improved the
quality of the service provided to port users
over the past few years."
